Howdy! Welcome to the new Department of Student Activities webpage. This has been in the works for over a year now, and we are excited that it is up and live. You will probably notice a number of changes to the website. We hope that these changes allow you to more easily navigate the website, finding valuable information that will allow you and your organization to do great work. Included in these changes is a new Advisors’ Blog. Here we will be posting content that we hope will assist you in your efforts advising student organizations at Texas A&M University.

We appreciate your patience as we explore how best to use this new tool. Our hope is that it allows us to reach a greater number of advisors across campus! With that, if there is ever a topic of interest you would like to see explored, or if you would be interested in providing content for a post, feel free to let us know!

Advising a student organization can be challenging, stressful, and at times exhausting. At the same time, it can be very rewarding as you actively participate in helping your students develop in to future leaders in society and their profession. In your role as an advisor, you have probably already had opportunities like this as you’ve worked some of the finest students at our institution. On this blog, we hope to provide you more ideas, theories, and resources to assist you in fulfilling your role as a student organization advisor. We also hope to showcase the work some of you and your colleagues are doing in advising the over 1,000 student organizations at Texas A&M!

If you ever have questions related to your advising role, need help navigating a challenging situation with your students, or would like to learn more about ways to improve your advising skills, please contact me. In my role coordinating advisor development, I look forward to working with you and helping you to enhance your experiences as a student organization advisor.

Thanks and Gig ‘Em,

Andrew Carruth
