Buck Weirus Award
The Buck Weirus Spirit Award, named for Richard “Buck” Weirus ’42, recognizes students for their outstanding contributions to student life programs at Texas A&M University. Weirus served as executive director of The Association of Former Students from 1964 to 1980. Because of his unique leadership, vision and support of student involvement, this award was established by The Association’s Board of Directors in 1982 in his honor.
The Buck Weirus Spirit Award is specifically dedicated for Aggies who go above and beyond in creating positive experiences and strengthening the Aggie spirit through involvement outside the classroom. Named after Richard “Buck” Weirus, ’42, the Awards have been recognizing Aggies that have made student life at Texas A&M a better place since 1982. LEARN MORE HOW TO BE NOMINATED
Adair Organization, Program, & Advisor of the Year Awards
The Adair Awards acknowledges exemplary recognized student organizations, their programs, and advisors that have made a significant effort to further their purpose through contributions to Texas A&M University and the surrounding community. The awards recognize groups that have demonstrated innovation, have made an impact on the state, nation, or world, embody the Aggie spirit through a commitment to the growth and development of their members, and develop leaders of character who are dedicated to serving the greater good.

Has your organization hosted an event in the past year that furthers your mission through a valuable contribution to the Texas A&M University community? Apply for this new award starting on December 1st!
Think your organization, program, or advisor is worthy of praise and recognition? Then make it official with The Adair Student Organization, Program, or Advisor of the Year Award!
Recipients of the advisor awards will receive monetary funds toward the organization they advise, and recipients of the organization and program awards will also receive monetary funds in their SOFC accounts.
All Adair Award recipients will be presented at a reception in late spring. Additionally, the following prizes will be awarded alongside the monetary award:
- For student organizations: Featured placement in StuAct signage and a special Study Hour hosted by the Association of Former Students during finals.” to “For student organizations: Featured posts/stories in StuAct social media.
- For advisors: A year-long membership to the Century Club, sponsored by the Association of Former students.
Applications consist of a one-page organization resume and short response questions. They must be submitted through the online form below.

Only one nomination for an organization or advisor will be considered for each award category. Awards will be presented to the winning organizations and advisors. at a reception in late spring.
Key Nomination Guidelines to Consider:

- Nominations must be completed in their entirety. Incomplete nominations will not be considered.
- Each nomination will require a response to several short response essay questions. It is recommended that you prepare your essay response(s) before filling out this nomination form.
- Each nomination will require a one-page organization resume. Examples can be found here.
- Only one (1) nomination per organization, per award.
Nomination Guidelines and Criteria for the Adair Awards
The Adair Organization of the Year Awards are presented to recognized student organizations that have made a significant effort to further their purposes through their contribution to Texas A&M University and the surrounding community.
This award recognizes student organizations that:
- Demonstrate innovation in the pursuit of their mission;
- Make an impact on Texas A&M and the local/global community;
- Embody the Aggie spirit through their commitment to the growth and development of their members; and
- Promote a culture of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
One recognized student organization will be selected for each of the following five categories:
- Sponsored Organization of the Year
- Partnered Organization of the Year
- Registered Organization of the Year
- Associated Organization of the Year
- New Organization of the Year
The Adair Advisor of the Year Awards recognize the outstanding contributions of faculty or staff advisors to recognized student organizations. Advisors serve as guides, mentors, and leaders to their respective student organizations, and individuals recognized for this award demonstrate an exceptional commitment to working with students outside of the classroom. Advisors of the Year are committed to a philosophy of shared responsibility that develops leaders of character dedicated to serving the greater good. Awards will be presented to one advisor from each of the four categories (registered, partnered, associated, and sponsored). This award is also presented to one new advisor, who has served as an advisor for fewer than two years.
In order to be eligible to receive the Adair Advisor of the Year award:
- Advisors must have served as the organization’s advisor for a minimum of two years. Advisors who have served for fewer than two years can be nominated for the New Advisor of the Year award.
- The advised student organization must be actively recognized through the Department of Student Activities
The Adair Organization Program of the Year Awards are presented to recognized student organizations that have planned and executed a program that furthers their purposes through their contribution to Texas A&M University and the surrounding community. This award recognizes student organization programs that:
- Demonstrate innovation in the pursuit of their mission;
- Make an impact on the state, nation, or world;
- Embody the Aggie spirit through their commitment to the growth and development of their members; and
- Promote a culture of belonging, curiosity, and cultural exchange.
One recognized student organization program will be selected for each of the following four categories:
- Sponsored Organization Program of the Year
- Partnered Organization Program of the Year
- Registered Organization Program of the Year
- Associated Organization Program of the Year
