Student Organization Recognition

The Department of Student Activities Recognition Department recognizes that one of the primary means of student involvement is through structured student organization activities and events.  Some of our richest traditions at Texas A&M are kept and maintained by student organizations:  Muster, Fish Camp, Parents Weekend, etc.  Our goal is to provide purposeful resource training, effective tools for process success, and an open environment to create your own involvement opportunity.

For more information, please feel free to utilize our Helpful Resources sections for additional campus services.  As well, the Recognition Department can be contact by email at recognition@stuact.tamu.edu or by phone at (979) 845 - 1133.  We welcome any question you may have and hope to assist you as much as possible.

What is Recognition?

Recognition is the process whereby student organizations become noticed or "official" in the eyes of the university.  Recognition has evolved into a complex process administered by the Department of Student Activities.  It is administered on an annual basis to over 800 individual organizations.

The Purpose of Recognition

The purpose of recognizing student organizations at Texas A&M University is to provide a structure through which students may exercise their right to freely associate in a common purpose or goal that unifies them to form an organization.  The recognition process is built upon five basic principles which all relate to the success of your student organization.

CONNECT

The recognition process allows Student Activities to have face to face interaction with the student leaders of each organization every year.  In addition, the recognition process allows us to collect the most up to date information concerning your group in a timely manner.

EDUCATE

When your organization associates with Texas A&M University, we have a duty to assist your group with understanding the benefits and expectations of recognized by the university.  Thus the recognition process consists of seminars that inform and educate student leaders and advisors (both new and returning) on these topics.

PROTECT

When you form an organization, your group should be distinct or unique from other organizations on campus.  By going through the recognition process each year (submitting documentation and updating your information), this helps us to help you protect the uniqueness of your student organization.

PARTNER

Texas A&M University wants to create an environment where students are actively involved on campus.  However, it would be difficult and time consuming for the university to implement and carry out all the fine details of every activity for students, so the university partners with student organizations to provide these opportunities.

SUPPORT

As you strive for success as an organization, Student Activities is determined to hold the same aspirations for your organization.  we want you to succeed as much as you do.  We will find a way to become the best resource possible for your organization.

Recognition Benefits

There are a number of benefits that come from being a recognized student organization at Texas A&M University.  These benefits are not afforded to non-recognized organizations or individual students and should be used as resources available to your organization.  Once an organization becomes recognized, the following privileges and benefits are accessible.

  • Association with Texas A&M University
  • Use of university logos and trademarks
  • Free website and email accounts
  • Access to university facilities
  • Participation in MSC Open House
  • Free banking services at the SOFC
  • Access to concessions and sandwich board permits
