Leading with Your StrengthsLeading with your Strengths is a 4-hour seminar for students who are interested in learning more about their natural strengths in order to become more effective leaders. Participants will take the Clifton StrengthsFinder inventory to learn their 5 strongest talents. Knowledge of these talents will allow students to learn how best to lead themselves in order to be prepared to lead others. StrengthsQuestThe mission of the StrengthsQuestTM program at Texas A&M is to facilitate participants achievement of academic, career, and personal success through identification, development, and utilization of their top 5 strengths. To that end we facilitate sessions with all sizes and types of groups, including student organizations, academic classes, and with staff that work directly with students. In the 2006-2007 academic year a little over 1500 students participated in a Strenghts program. Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People for College StudentsMultiple seminars are offered each semester, focusing on making excellence your habit. Students who attend a 7 Habits seminar have the opportunity to discover a renewed sense of direction, restore balance to their life, learn to accomplish goals with greater productivity, learn to work with others and form strong team unity, and increase influence in key relationships. LeaderShapeThe LeaderShape Institute at Texas A&M is highly regarded as an intense and energizing six-day program which is open to students interested in producing extraordinary results while also developing a commitment to lead with a high level of integrity. It is a unique opportunity for Aggies to interact with others from across the campus and across the A&M system, and to focus on developing in the key leadership issues of vision, partnerships, integrity, results, reflection, and personal growth. Each student who participates in LeaderShape is encouraged to embrace “a healthy disregard for the impossible” and to create a vision of something that he or she would like to see developed, changed, or improved in his or her campus or community. Upon returning to campus after completing the Institute, participants continue to work toward making their visions become realities. Learning to LeadThe mission of the “Learning to Lead” program is to provide students with an intentional, structured training opportunity that will expose students to the concepts of leadership theory, skills, and application. The program strives to encourage students to development their own leadership philosophy through education, training, and personal development. Margaret Rudder Community Service AwardThe Margaret Rudder Service Award recognizes a student or students who have made a great impact through their service for and work with a social issue. Applications are accepted each spring semester, and the award is presented at the All University Awards Ceremony during Parents’ Weekend. Social Issues AwarenessThe Leadership and Service Center sees social issues awareness as a key component of our mission. To that end, programming in this area is growing. Each fall we host an Active Citizenship Day, highlighted by a voting drive. In the spring we are working to implement a Social Issues Awareness Week, which will extend this educational programming to incorporate a diversity of social issues. Volunteer Opportunities FairThe VOF offers students the opportunity to meet with many different community agencies who are looking for volunteers. The VOF is held on campus once during the fall semester and once during the spring semester. |
