For years Aggie student leaders have been recognized nationally for their commitment to servant-leadership.  It is important to spotlight students that are exhibiting great deeds of selfless acts, courage, creativity and innovation in systemically addressing community issues, and providing service to Texas A&M University, College Station/Bryan, the State of Texas, and the global community.  The Leadership and Service Center is proud to work with so many of these dedicated Aggies and are honored to highlight these individuals.  If you know of an Aggie student that should be recognized by the LSC, please email the student’s contact information (email and phone number) and a brief narrative of why this student should be highlighted to: jparker@stuact.tamu.edu  or by calling 979.458.1026.

What brought you to Texas A&M University?  My journey to Texas A&M was anything but direct, but I am so glad to have finally made it!  My first year was spent at the University of Texas at San Antonio with the goal of eventually going to that other Texas school in Austin. However, I wised up and decided to come to Aggieland.

What organizations are you actively involved in?

Chair, Aggie Green Fund

Director, One Aggieland

Tell us the mission and purpose of One Aggieland and how it was founded?  Over twenty-five years ago, Dr. Norman Borlaug, the father of the Green Revolution and arguably one of the most important men in the fight to end global hunger, could find no better place to continue his work than Texas A&M University. His tireless efforts to end one of the world's largest problems have inspired generations of Aggies. On September 12, 2009, he passed away at his home in Dallas. One Aggieland is the commitment of the Texas A&M family to continue his legacy.

One Aggieland is an organization that is encouraging collaboration within the Aggie Network to amplify the efforts of students, institutions and faculty who are positively impacting hunger, poverty, human rights and sustainability.

What is your vision for One Aggieland?  What are your goals for the remainder of the year?  I hope that by coming together as a community we can make a bigger impact. There are so many students, faculty, staff and departments on campus working tirelessly to impact the cause they are most passionate about and we want their work to be smarter, bigger and more effective.

The upcoming year is our first calendar year of implementing projects. We have spent the last six months developing a statewide conference and social justice career fair, a class on social justice leadership, and monthly meetings with as many as thirty different student groups trying to make a difference.

What would be the universal message for students, faculty and staff to know about One Aggieland?  One Aggieland is a community dedicated to social justice and we want to work with you. We are ambitious, but we are also diligent and patient. We are here to serve our community, and will focus our efforts on Aggies making a difference.
