I am a junior Animal Science from Bremond, TX (a small town where I graduated with only 30 classmates). In high school I was thoroughly involved in sports, 4-H, FFA, and graduated Valedictorian of my high school class. It was my dream to become a first generation Aggie! During my freshman year at A&M, I became a member of the 2006 National Champion Wool Judging Team, which traveled to the National Western Stock Show in Colorado, the San Antonio Livestock Exposition, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. In addition to being extremely involved in the Animal Science Department I also devote my time to the College of Agriculture and Life Science. I am a representative on the COALS Student Council, which serves as a sponsoring group for activities of interest to the college and acts as a liaison between students and the COALS administration. I am also an AGRISpeaker, which gives me the opportunity to go to various high school and community activities to speak. As an Animal Science Aggie REP, I assist with the recruitment of prospective students by visiting junior colleges and stock shows, giving tours of the Campus, sending out recruitment packets and sending e-mails to future students. I am also a member of the Texas Aggie Cattlewomen, TAMU Beef Cattle Association and was involved with the HOSTS program, mentoring elementary children. For the past two years I have served as the secretary on the National Junior Brangus Board of Directors, and this past year I held the title of International Brangus Breeders Association Queen. Brangus cattle hold a special place in my heart and I plan to continue to be a Brangus Breeder later in life. I also plan to be a member of the 2008 TAMU Livestock Judging Team. My favorite organization on campus is the Texas A&M Saddle & Sirloin Club. The Saddle & Sirloin Club is the largest organization on campus with over 250 active members that are committed to promote animal agriculture by supporting departmental judging teams, hosting socials, and providing community service and education about agriculture. I served as the club’s treasurer last year where I was in charge of five accounts for the extremely active club and was recently voted as the club’s Sweetheart, to be in charge of all community service activities for the next school year. Whether it is the Back to School Bash, Halloween Social, Fall BBQ, Christmas Formal, National Convention, Little Southwestern Showmanship Contest, Steer and Heifer Futurities, Children’s Barnyard, Cattlemen’s Ball, or Spring Banquet, I love sharing every minute with my friends and mentors in the Saddle & Sirloin club. The Saddle & Sirloin Club is where I have found my very best friends and made my fondest memories! I am also involved by being a student worker in the Undergraduate Animal Science Advising Office. I help with numerous activities such as New Student Conferences, Livestock Judging Camps, Clinics and Contests, basic Animal Science Courses, and the list goes on! In the future I plan to attend graduate school to obtain a degree in AgBusiness and pursue a doctorate in Ag Education, eventually I would like to teach and advise at the collegiate level. The morals and values that my family instilled in me, along with my second-to-none work ethic have made my accomplishments possible. My friends, the Department of Animal Science and the College of Ag have made my career at A&M a ride that has been worthwhile! Being involved has enabled me to make the greatest memories possible during my time at Texas A&M! |
