Profiles: Lisa Chapa

Howdy! My name is Lisa Chapa and I am currently in my fifth year here at A&M. I will be graduating in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Genetics. Throughout my longer-than-normal tenure at A&M, I have been extremely blessed to be involved in so many amazing organizations.

Last year was, by far, my craziest semester. I was a full-time pre-med student, worked 15 hours per week as a student worker in the Student Government Office, volunteered 10 hours per week in a social emotive neuroscience lab, was a section leader during my eighth semester in Century Singers, and I was the Director of Delegates for both the 54th MSC Fall Leadership Conference and the 45th MSC Spring Leadership Trip. I am also a member of Living Hope Baptist Church and just completed my fourth year as a counselor for Aggies Reaching Out - an outreach program targeting potential first-generation college students in South Texas. I have also been involved in MSC LEAD, Voices of Praise Gospel Choir, Phi Beta Chi, Impact, Upstream, Campus Crusade for Christ, and the McAllen Language Center where I taught English.

The resources available to the student body at Texas A&M are invaluable. Texas A&M has provided me with the opportunities to not just grow academically, but to grow as an individual and a leader. Being involved on campus has instilled a confidence in me that I lacked when I started my collegiate career. As you can probably tell, I like to make the most of my time, and I work best with a full load of responsibility. The one thing that keeps me so involved is that all of the organizations that I am a part of incorporate my passions. I love to sing, serve my church, and serve others. I am also a nerd and think that working in neuroscience lab is a cool thing to do.

This past summer I submitted applications to Medical School and to the Peace Corps. I haven't decided in which order I want to pursue these interests, but I do know that my time here at A&M has prepared me for whatever path I choose.
