Profiles: John Kim

I am a junior accounting major from Euless, Texas. From age five, I began to realize my passion for music on the piano, and two years later I switched to the violin. Throughout my youth I played in the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, played in multiple competitions and attended various music camps.

In my eighth grade year, however, I found a new passion that eventually inspired me to become the president of the A&M Billiards Club. For the first time, I picked up a pool cue and became fascinated with the game of billiards. Although I could not play much because of expensive table time, I shot whenever and wherever there was a table.

In 2005, I graduated from high school and packed up to move on campus at Texas A&M. For the first time I could practice pool at the Commons for as long as I wanted; I fell in love with the game. At the Commons I met other players on my level and made some of my best friends in college.

At the beginning of my sophomore year, my buddies and I joined the CENTEL 8-Ball League in College Station and initiated the steps to resurrect the A&M Billiards Club. I was eventually elected as president and have been working to reestablish A&M Billiards’ status throughout the other Texas colleges.

In the future I have the hopes of entering the Texas A&M Professional Program of Accounting to earn my masters. I plan to further my concentration in the field of Finance and eventually become an investment banker.
